What yoga is this?

My most common question is “What type of yoga do you teach?”…


To be honest this is a tricky question to respond to in one sentence. I'll often say 'gentle hatha, vin-yin, flow, breath-work pranayama and meditation and mantra...' however it really is so much more than that.


My true answer would be that these yoga classes and workshops are carefully curated around making every single cell smile! They are centred around mind-body-soul congruency, heart coherency, nervous system regulation and vagus nerve stimulation and cortisol (stress hormone) reduction. It's all about coming into homeostasis or finding our equilibrium.

How do we achieve this you may ask? We send the ‘prana’ (life-energy) to all the areas that need it, whether that be your physical body, your mental state or your soul space/ energy body. They all interact with each-other closely anyway, so levelling out one has a ripple effect on all with a multitude of benefits.


The benefits being that we are oxygenating all of our cells, so our blood better circulates and bathes and nourishes all of our organs for peak performance and functionality. The trick is that we do this consciously with intention and awareness, however we embody it through synchronising the breath with movement so we absorb it on a cellular level. This becomes ingrained into our sub conscious with time and repetition once it is habitualised. Once it is second nature to us, it becomes a sustainable way of life.


This in turn helps boost all of our complex and genius systems so they are operating on all cylinders or like we are no longer running on an empty tank, rather a full one. The systems being, our endocrine (homonal) system, our cardiovascular (heart/bpm's) system, our digestive (gut health) system, our respiratory (lungs/ integrity of breath) system and of course our nervous system. There are more however I wont list them all now or we will be here forever.


When our systems are fully functioning we notice things like our sleep, memory, energy levels, executive functioning/clarity and emotional stability improving. Thats just to name a few.


So the yoga I teach is really designed for you to be in tune with your body and breaths own natural intelligence and in-built healing modalities. This elevates and empowers you to take this beyond the mat and into your day to day life.


You are supported to lean into your ‘sankalpas’ (solid heartfelt goal/s or some call them intentions) and be inspired to live in alignment with them. This is to practice radical self belief and begin to trust that you can accomplish what you set out to do... we strive for gradual and lasting progress not instant perfection. This is exampled through our practice of our asana movements and of our quality of our pranayama breath-work. With consistency, you will notice you stretch further or deeper and you breath longer and deeper.


The gift that keeps on giving is when we have the self realisation that we already are balanced beings and discover that we can heal dis-ease (from within) when we apply yogic wisdom and yogic/ ayurvedic science to ourselves consciously.


This is why we practice yoga. And my life’s purpose is to share with you how to direct your breath and utilise your movements in a way that brings you into the best version of yourself. It is not about how flexy or sexy you can be. Oja Yoga is all about running much deeper than that. Believing in the ancient teachings that are of a more authentic and classical nature, made applicable to you no matter what stage or age or ‘walk of life’ you are at.


So for 2025, we are kickstarting (opening the doors back up) on the 29th Jan >>> The lunar new year in Aquarius and on the Chinese new year of the snake. Plus we have the 'planet parade' going on - what a potent time!

Oja Yoga is held at the beautiful ‘Tallowood Temple’ 46 Tuckeroo Ave, Tallowood Estate, Mullumbimby. Simply type in ‘Oja Yoga’ on maps to get here.

This is a safe space to be yourself (for absolutely all levels) and let it all out. Movement and breath-work medicine to fill your cup and have your spirit feeling high. It’s my honour to support you on your journey whether a novice or a guru.

*Classes are a beautiful blend of gentle hatha, vin-yin, yo-qi, somatic movement like medicine and pranayam breath-work, guided meditation, mantra.

*I provide mats and props (except to Thur 10am class in nature, BYO towel or mat to that one)
